Hemorrhoidectomy is the removal of hemorrhoids. These piles are the loose coating of skin which bulges throughout the sphincter (ring muscle) that keeps the anus closed. They contain large blood vessels which can start bleeding or clotting thus causing severe pain. Exasperating tags can also be produced by the loose skin.

If the patient does not seek treatment, the piles will not get better but remain as bothersome or even become worse. Hemorrhoids can be frozen or pinched off; however, the best option in general is to have them cut out.

Procedure information
The removal of hemorrhoids is performed under a general anesthesia so that the patient is completely asleep. In some cases, an injection may be administered in the back to anesthetize the area. The surgeon then stretches the ring muscle and trims off the piles.

Bowel movements following the procedure can be slightly painful but this will quickly get better. You might notice a small amount of blood in your stool for a couple of days after surgery, but this is a short-term side effect. Some patients have difficulties in passing urine and emptying their bladder after the procedure.

Recovery time
For a week or more after the procedure, most patients feel weary and want to rest several times a day. Gradual improvement will occur, and after 1 month your back passage will feel normal again and you will be capable of resuming your usual activity level. After about 10 days, patients can start driving. Within 1 or 2 weeks, sexual activities can be revived, and patients should also be able to return to work after about 1 to 2 weeks depending on their job.
